Business of Software

The *business* of software

Hi All,

I am kind of newbie here and I have to admit I am not good enough when it comes to correctly wording the question..but can't help my curiosity

I had one question for all executors..What is essential qualities for any product company or custom dev shop that make their customers to come back to them?

Basically "What are the things that keep your customers coming back to you in software business??"

Speaking from a consumer stand-point:

1) The obvious one...a "great" product
2) A product that is steadily improved from both a feature and performance perspective
3) An upgrade path, in terms of price and/or product version offerings , that recognizes existing loyal customers
4) An occasional from the company informing me of what's coming up/what great new features have just been released

Regular software updates, newsletters, regular publications of case studies that tell user about real-life situations when the product helped someone to solve a problem, plus press-releases. Different incentives work fine too. Actually, I'm not a developer, just a Russian translator and copywriter but over the last 5 years, I have worked closely with SWRUS Micro ISVs and tell you from what I've seen.

great intimate service. that very often overcomes the shortcomings of a poor product.

don't forget that a vendor or a service provider cannot take all credit for a customer coming back to him. very often the pain of jettisoning a poor product or service provider is much greater than what the customer is willing to undergo.

Hi Lalit

There are several keys to having a customer come back to you. Here are a few though:
- they get the results you said they would get
- they trust you
- you appreciate them and show it
- they enjoy working with you
- you have more you can offer.

Conversely if they did not get the results you said they would get or they don't trust you or you don't appreciate them or they don't enjoy working with you, then they WILL NOT come back if they can help it.

Hi !

I do not sell any software as of now..but as a software professional wanted to do my best bit to get our customers satisfied [delighted?] and keep happily referring to us.

also, the thing is that I am thinking to follow my own MicroISV -> Startup root. I do not have definite time bound to do that[I know it is shame but that is the bare fact] since I need to manage my finances well before jumping into anything wild.
